Installation for SQL Server 2012 - Default Instance



MS SQL Server 2012 can install in SIX different approaches.

    01. Install SQL Server 2012 from Installation Wizard (Setup).
    02. Install SQL Server 2012 from the Command Prompt.
    03. Install SQL Server 2012 Using a Configuration File.
    04. Install SQL Server 2012 Using SysPrep.
    05. Create a New SQL Server Failover Cluster (Setup).
    06. Upgrade to SQL Server 2012 Using the Installation Wizard (Setup).

This topic provides a step-by-step procedure for installing a new default instance of SQL Server 2012 using the SQL Server setup installation wizard. The SQL Server Installation Wizard provides a single feature tree for installation of all SQL Server components so that you do not have to install them individually. The SQL Server Installation Wizard provides a single feature tree to install all SQL Server components:

    01. Database Engine
    02. Analysis Services
    03. Reporting Services
    04. Integration Services
    05. Master Data Services
    06. Data Quality Services
    07. Management tools
    08. Connectivity components

You can install each component individually or select a combination of the components listed above.

Step 01 - Initiate SQL Server Setup

Open the MS SQL Server 2012 Software File Folder.

Double-click setup.exe



SQL Server initiates Setup Process and displays like following image. Please wait some time.



The Installation Wizard runs the SQL Server Installation Center.



Step 02 - Start SQL Server Installation

To create a new installation of SQL Server, click Installation in the left-hand navigation area.



Click New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation in the right-hand window.



SQL Server initiates Setup Process and displays like following image. Please wait some time.



Step 03 - Validates Setup Support Rules

Implicitly, SQL Server validates Setup Support Rules.

If Setup Support Rules failures must be corrected before Setup can continue.

Click OK when system displays all rules are "Passed".

Step 04 - Validates Product Updates Information

On the Product Updates page, the latest available SQL Server product updates are displayed. If you don't want to include the updates, clear the Include SQL Server product updates check box. If no product updates are discovered, SQL Server Setup does not display this page and auto advances to the Install Setup Files page.



Click Next when system identify any Product Update Files.



Click Install when system identifies any Product Update Files.

On the Install Setup files page, Setup provides the progress of downloading, extracting, and installing the Setup files. If an update for SQL Server Setup is found, and is specified to be included, that update will also be installed.



System displays information window, when complete product update files.

We need to restart computer after complete SQL Server Installation Task.

To continue, click OK.



Step 05 - Validates Setup Support Rules

Implicitly, SQL Server validates Setup Support Rules.

If Setup Support Rules failures must be corrected before Setup can continue.

Click Warning when system display message instead of "Passed".



Click OK.



To continue, click Next.



Step 06 -Update License Information

Select Evaluation or Express option from Specify a free edition drop down box.



Evaluation edition will work 180 days with most of the Enterprise Edition Features.

Expression edition will work N no of days with few SQL Server Features.

To continue, click Next.



Click I accept the license terms check box option and then click Next.



Step 07 - Select Setup Role Option

Select SQL Server Feature Installation option to individually select which feature components to install, or click a feature role to install a specific configuration.

To continue, click Next.



Step 08 - Select SQL Server Features

On the Feature Selection page, select the components for your installation. A description for each component group appears in the Feature description pane after you select the feature name. You can select any combination of check boxes.



Click Select All.



To continue, click Next and wait some time.



Implicitly, SQL Server validates Installation Rules.

If Installation Rules failures must be corrected before Setup can continue.

Click Failed when system display message instead of "Passed".

Click Next when system display message "Passed".
