Data Marts
Data warehouse’s data is often segmented into specialized components is called
Data Marts that address individual components of the Organization. For example,
Enterprise Data Warehouse’s data can segmented into Sales Data Mart, Inventory
and Shipping Data Mart, Finance Data Mart, Geographical Data Mart, HR and
Management Data Mart and so on.
Data Mart is a subset of the Data Warehouse that based on Subjective of
Enterprise Business Unit or Team. Each Data Marts may or may not be dependent or
related to other Data Marts in the Data Warehouse.
Independent Data Mart can design based Conformed Facts and Dimensions Structure,
particular Business Unit or Team can access and manage the data. Periodically,
independent data mart is update data from different Online Transaction Database
that will not reflect to another data mart in the Data Warehouse.
Dependent Data Mart can design based Conformed Facts and Shared Dimensions
Structure, all Business Unit or Team can access and manage the data. An
instance, when update Employee information in the Master Data Warehouse
Dimension Table that information should reflect into all Data Marts.
Periodically, dependent data mart is update data from Master Data Warehouse
System.
